Record time study observations using the stopwatch or manual entry. Statistical analysis removes outliers, calculates mean cycle time, and applies a rating factor and allowances to derive normal time and standard time — the foundation of capacity planning and takt time comparison.
Observed Time = Mean of readings
Normal Time = OT × (Rating ÷ 100)
Standard Time = NT × (1 + Allowance ÷ 100)
Standard time is the benchmark used in capacity planning. Compare it directly to your takt time — if standard time > takt time, the operation is a bottleneck.
